How
Do I Know My Child Is Ready for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion?
-
Does the child talk about Jesus or God as a real
person who is active in everyday life?
-
Does the child know the story of Jesus, Jesus was
born a human birth, died a human death and chose to resurrect?
-
Does the child pray regularly and in different situations?
-
Does the child participate during parts of the Mass
on Sunday? (sing, return responses, know appropriate gestures)
-
Does the child recognize the Bible as a way God talks
to us?
-
Does the child understand ways that priests are special?
-
Does the child understand that God talks to us through
other people or that other people are gifts from God?
To celebrate the Sacrament of Eucharist and First Holy Communion,
a child must be able to:
-
recognize that Jesus is present under the appearance
of bread and wine.
-
receive the Sacrament with faith and devotion.
-
age appropriately participate at Mass
