How Do I Know My Child Is Ready for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion?

 

 

  • Does your child talk about Jesus or God as a real person who is active in everyday life?
  • Does your child know the story of Jesus?
  • Does your child pray regularly?
  • Does your child participate at Mass on Sunday?
  • Is your child able to distinguish that the Body and Blood of Christ are different from regular bread and drink?
  • Does your child recognize that Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ present with us.


To celebrate the Sacrament of Eucharist and First Holy Communion, a child must be able to:

  • recognize that Jesus is present under the appearance of bread and wine.
  • receive the Sacrament with faith and devotion.
  • age appropriately participate at Mass
